The 912 model replaced the 356 model in 1965 - actually Porsche had not planned to build a 912 model, but they were "forced" by the buyers to do so because of the high price of the 6-cyl. 911 model.
The Porsche factory was capable of minimizing the production costs of the 912 model because this model simply inherited the "old", well proven, and very dependable 1582cc 4-cyl. engine from the 356 model. More precisely the engine is a modified 356 SC engine throttled down from 95 HP to 90 HP to achieve a better torque in the middle range revs.
Actually the 912 model became a hit amongst Porsche enthusiasts (especially in the USA), and during the 5 years of production (1965-69) no less than 30.300 cars were manufactored. As a comparison the Porsche factory produced 36.533 Porsche 911 2,0 in the same period of time.
Our Porsche 912 is a 1966 model which was delivered from the factory to a VW/Audi/Porsche dealer in Munich, Germany on the 14th of June 1966. It is a 5-gauge car meaning that it was delivered with 2 extra gauges containing clock and outside thermometer. Sometime in the early 1980'es our 912 was fitted with the famous Porsche hallmark - the "Fuchs" alloy wheels. We also believe that our 912 was repainted and had its engine overhauled in the mid-80'es.
Our research shows that the car has had several owners - but all of them living in Bavaria/Bayern in the environs of Munich/München. So it must have been a quite big upheaval for our Porsche 912 to move all the way to us in Denmark!
